Bachelor of Sciences in
Nutrition and Herbal Medicine (B.S.)
The Department of Nutrition and Herbal Medicine Research
Advancement offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition
and Herbal Medicine. Students apply to the program, after
completing of general education, inclusive of the prerequisites
described in this document. Upon completion of the Bachelor
of Science in Nutrition and Herbal Medicine, the graduate
will be prepared to function as an entry-level nutritionist
and herbalist.
Academic Program
The program involves a highly concentrated, 120 semester
units curriculum. The inherent strength of the program lies
in the provision of carefully coordinated research experiences
that compliment and enhance nutrition and herbal instruction,
allowing the student to practice and develop skills learned.
This continual interplay of didactic and research and self
study learning provides an opportunity for the development
of sophisticated expertise in the delivery of nutritional
care. Graduates of the program are competent to perform
in an entry-level position as a nutritionist and herbalist.
Admission Requirements/Application Procedure:
Applicants must provide evidence of the following:
- Complete the Application for Admission and submit it
with a non-refundable check or money order for $110.00
payable to American Liberty University;
- have successfully completed, or be in the process of
completing a minimum of 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter
hours) of course work, from any accredited college or
university, prior to matriculation to the program (transferred
students only);
- be in good standing with the college or university currently
or most recently attended;
- provide two recent color passport size photos;
- official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities
attended;
- submit a 1-2 page Statement of Educational purpose (basically,
a letter in your own words) that gives us an idea of your
future career objectives, issues in education important
to you, or a brief statement of your experiences in the
medical field, which make our program of interest to you.
Graduation Requirements
- To satisfy the requirements of the BS degree completion
program, a student must have successfully completed 42
semester hours of general education course work, 60 semester
hours of foundation and core courses, plus 18 semester
hours electives, for a total of 120 semester hours.
- Maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
General Education Courses: 42 semester hours
The University requires a General Studies Curriculum for
all students in degree programs. The required courses are
selected from the Humanities and Communications, Science
and Mathematics, and Behavioral Science.
The purpose of the General Education Curriculum as a base
is to liberate persons from narrow perspectives, ideas,
and values; to open the mind to a higher and more complex
world; and to foster the development of appropriate intellectual
and interpersonal skills.
