Therapy
The Department of Physical Therapy, one of the department
of College of College of Health Science is formed to responding to
the increasing complexity and responsibilities of Licensed
Physical therapists, those who never had a chance to continue
his/her education in the field of physical therapy, the
American Liberty University College of College of Health Science, Department
of Physical Therapy offered Master of Science in Physical
Therapy and Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Therapy, which
are designed especially for Licensed Physical Therapist.
The Physical Therapist
Physical Therapy is an exciting and rewarding health profession,
which applies scientific principles to prevent and remedy
problems in human movement.
Physical therapists evaluate, treat and instruct patients
in order to help prevent, correct, and alleviate pain, discomfort
and dysfunction brought about by both physical and mental
disorders. The responsibilities of the physical therapist
include teaching, research, administration and consultation.
Physical therapy service is provided in such diverse settings
as hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers,
private practices, voluntary health agencies, home health
care agencies, nursing homes, and schools for handicapped
children, public schools, and sports medicine clinics. The
demand for physical therapists is great.
Physical therapists work in many health care settings,
including hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes,
home care agencies, schools, and rehabilitation centers.
Therapists may elect to practice as generalists, or they
may choose one of a number of specialty areas. These specialties
include orthopedics, geriatrics, neurology, pediatrics,
sports physical therapy, and cardiopulmonary. In addition
to patient care, physical therapists have many opportunities
in administration, research, and education. In the United
States, a license is required for physical therapists to
practice. In most states, new graduates must have either
completed the licensure process with passing grades on the
exam or hold a temporary license before they are allowed
to treat patients.
Admission Requirements
Applicants are required to complete a baccalaureate degree
at an accredited college or university prior to matriculation.
The prerequisite course work must include: four courses
in the biological sciences; 3 semester physics; a minimum
of 3 semester of college chemistry (preferred on organic
chemistry and/or biochemistry); one semester of college
mathematics; two courses in psychology. Other studies must
include: one course in composition and writing; one course
in literature or one course in history. A cross-cultural
course in sociology is recommended. All science courses
must include laboratories. Experience in the use of computers
as a tool for independent learning is recommended. The American
Liberty University Office of International Admissions must
approve credits from foreign institutions.

If licensing, certification or credentialing by a public
or private agency or professional association is the objective
of the student, we recommend that the applicant check with
the authority which offers the recognition before enrolling
in the University.
